What can I do to prevent my system from failing?

This is the key: ✓ routine maintenance, ✓ water conservation, and ✓ being aware of what is entering the system. The more water that is used, the more physically stressed your drainfield becomes. Cutting water usage can be done through small changes. See our list of Do’s & Don’ts for some ideas, and what you should and shouldn’t put down the drain. You should also keep a detailed record of all maintenance performed.

I’ve heard that garbage disposals aren’t good for your system. Is thts true?

We have noticed thicker effluent in most homes with garbage disposals; this leads us to believe that separation of solid material isn’t taking place like it should be. When that separation doesn’t happen, solid materials can flow out to the drainfield. This may not develop into a noticeable problem for many years, but it is negatively effecting the drainfield. We recommend throwing excess food and other waste into the trash.

There’s an alarm going off...what is it?

Don’t “silence & ignore” the alarm! It will hurt your system in the long run. Most likely, this is a pump alarm. It means you either have too much or too little liquid in the tank with the pump. This could mean anything from an electrical issue to a drainfield problem. You could check your circuit breaker panel, but have a licensed O&M Technician check it out.

Could doing too much laundry all at once ruin my septic system?

Yes, over time. Hydraulic overload (forcing too much water to your drainfield) will kill your system. It is only made to handle a designated amount of liquid each day, based on the system’s design. Spread your laundry out throughout the week! Don’t do it all on one day, and use bleach sparingly.

When should my tank be pumped?

The real answer: when it needs to be pumped. For a family of 4, we recommended pumping every 3-5 years. When 33% of the tank’s volume is made up of solid materials, it’s time to pump. Keeping the bottom layer (sludge) at least 12” from the bottom of the outlet baffle is the priority. This ensures that liquid (effluent) is the only thing leaving the tank.

What is a septic tank? How do septic tanks work?

A septic tank is a holding container for a septic system. It is an underground tank that is typically made of concrete, plastic, or fiberglass. It is designed to hold wastewater from the home and allow the solids in the water to be broken down by anaerobic bacteria. The solids are broken down and then fall to the bottom of the tank, with the solid-free wastewater leaving the tank and going to the septic field where it is filtered through the ground.

How often should I pump out the tank?

For most homes, the septic tank should be pumped out every three to five years. This process removes the sludge from the bottom of the tank to maintain septic efficiency and capacity. Homes that produce more wastewater may require pumping more frequently.

How much does it cost to pump a septic tank?

The cost of pumping a septic tank depends on several factors, including the size of the tank and the type of septic system. However, the cost of pumping the tank every few years and having it inspected is much less than a system replacement or repair if it is not maintained.

How long does it take to pump a septic tank?

For most homes, pumping a septic tank takes less than an hour, but this can vary based on the size of the tank and the ability to access the tank to complete the process. Older systems may not have access risers which adds to the time needed to complete the process.

I had advanced Septic come out to my home to solve the problem with my alarm going off on my septic system. The first tech that came out isn't the reason I'm writing this review, he was quick to tell me what was wrong and would talk over the top of me while I was explaining what was happening. When he left he said everything is back to where it should be and I said Ill see you tomorrow because the alarm is going to go off again tomorrow. Sure enough it did I called back and they were quick to send someone out again. Brian Chapin looked at the control box, pulled the cover off of the pump tank and within 30 seconds said, "There's the problem the float has come loose and is floating in the tank" Within about 15 minutes he had the float pole pulled up re-attached the float and even replaced the zip ties on the other floats with metal pipe clamps. He tested the system and what do you know its working perfectly. Brain also pulled the filter and clean it out, checked the solids tank and suggested we get it pumped which we will do. Brian was the Service Tech we are all hoping we get whenever we need any kind of service work performed. He listened to everything I had to say, explained everything he was doing, was well versed in his trade, but most of all I felt completely confident that he was the right man for the job. He even helped me with making sure that I was not billed any additional charges for his work that day. Even though day 1 technician didn't fix the problem, I'm still giving them 5 stars for the way they handled this call. Brian is the technician every company wished they had. I called their 24 line at 2am because it was going off at that time and I panicked.They were very nice about telling me that they would send someone that same day in the morning once I told them what was going on (I wasn’t getting backed up water into my house so I knew it was ok)I called other companies that also had a 24 hour number and no one answered even when their website said they were already opened. I recently had an issue where my downstairs toilet was backing up. I removed my septic tank lids and saw my solids tank was full - due to my not having the system pumped them out in way too long. I called some septic companies for an emergency cleaning, but all were booked at least a week out. One of the septic companies said A Advanced might be able to come out that day. I called A Advanced at 11:30 AM and they said they could make it out between 2:00 and 7:00. The technician Dillon arrived at 3:15 and after apologizing for what he was about to see, I showed him the disastrous tank. He didn't even blink an eye, although I am sure he wanted to back up the truck and go back to their yard. Dillon went straight to work and after an hour plus of cleaning he had our tanks completely empty. Dillon saved the day. It cost more for the emergency clean out, but it was well worth it. Dillon did a great job and left a clean job site. I really appreciated that A Advanced was able to make it out the same day. So, Thanks Dillon and thanks A Advanced., I would recommend A Advanced to anyone needing a septic cleaning.

Really professional and incredibly helpful customer service.We called around for quotes to pump our septic system, I was walked through the process and all the fees. No ‘hidden” charges and was even told about a current coupon they had going. I actually called two other companies including who we had used before but was drawn back to Advanced, how nice they were, how quick they could fit us in and how comparable to other companies they were.Service techs came out on time after a phone call and text giving us a heads up they were on their way and WHO would be showing up. While pumping the technician let us know our septic was actually a 2-chamber system, that we only had uncovered one lid and asked if we knew where the other access lid was (even offered to dig for it but since we weren’t sure and they do charge to dig we declined) and told us how to find out more about our system.We were a little skeptical since we had the system pumped 6 years ago and that company never said a word. After digging through Pierce County records we found it WAS a 2 chamber system, where the lid was and called Advanced back to pump the other side. When I called I barely had to say anything, just who I was and they brought up all previous notes and knew what I was calling about.Since we had already paid for septic pumping they only charged us a service call and pumping per gallon! The other company six years ago didn’t even notice and didn’t pump both sides! We could have had a major problem in a few years and this was all avoided by Advanced's attention to detail.
